The party had announced to set up a camp to celebrate the victory of PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari in the presidential election, in which he is likely to emerge a winner with a big margin.

Zardari, a joint candidate of the ruling coalition, is up against PTI-backed Mahmood Achakzai in the election for the 14th president of Pakistan.

Flanked by party leaders at a press conference, PPP’s Aslam Gill alleged that the SSP Operations Lahore Ali Raza refused to allow the party to set up the victory camp citing security reasons.

He claimed that SSP Raza had threatened police action if the party continued to set up camp at the Charing Cross.

Gill urged Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz to take notice of the police action as the party workers chanted slogans against Lahore police.

The PPP leader said that they were not out protesting but gathered to celebrate the party’s victory.

Gill vowed to hold their celebratory event, saying that nobody had the power to stop them from doing so.

Meanwhile, the polling for the presidential election was under way in Senate of Pakistan, National Assembly and all four provincial assemblies of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan.
