Resolution seeking Imran Khan’s release submitted in NA Secretariat

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member National Assembly Asad Qaiser on Tuesday submitted a resolution in the NA Secretariat seeking the release of former prime minister Imran Khan.

In the resolution, the former NA speaker alleged that Khan was convicted in baseless cases and has remained in jail on fabricated charges.

He also claimed that the former prime minister was politically victimised as the cases against him had no legal grounds.

Qaiser also demanded the immediate release of PTI workers along with the journalists behind bars in several cases.

Read: PTI chief’s aid claims attempts being made to keep Imran Khan in jail

The former prime minister remains in jail since his arrest after a session judge sentenced him to prison in the Toshakhana Criminal case on August 5, 2023.

While the Islamabad High Court later suspended his three-year sentence, he remained detained at Attock Jail for the hearing of the cypher case under the Official Secrets Act.

He was later shifted to Adiala Jail as IHC observed that under-trial prisoners of all the courts in the federal capital were kept at Adiala and issued directions to shift the PTI chief to that prison.

Khan is now incarcerated at the Adiala after he was convicted in three different cases.
