Daily life in Gwadar of Balochistan was devastated after heavy rainfall in the city and other parts of the province submerged the coastal districts in floodwater.

Rainwater entered houses while boundary walls and roofs of several houses collapsed in the city.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Makran Saeed Imrani said that rescue operations have started as the authorities evacuated around 25 families to safer areas.

However, he said that no human losses have been reported.

On Tuesday, multiple parts of Balochistan received torrential rain causing alarm about flooding, particularly in Gwadar.

Visuals showed swathes of land inundated by water as residents tried to save their belongings and shift to safety.

At least seven houses have been destroyed by the rains and many major highways have been rendered unusable for traffic.

Balochistan’s Senator Kauda Bakhsh has called for Gwadar to be declared a calamity-hit region. He also said that the entire city of Gwadar has been overrun by water.

However, Gwadar’s DC said that the rain has temporarily stopped in the city and it has not lost road connections via road to Karachi and Turbat.

The DC acknwledged that Gwadar’s internal roads have been affected. He also said that numerous houses have been partially damaged by the rains.

Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has also expressed concern over the post-rain situation in Gwadar.

Bilawal also called on both the city’s administration as well as PPP workers in the area to make all possible efforts for the city’s relief.

The country is still reeling from the catastrophic floods of 2022, which, according to UNICEF, caused one third of Pakistan to be submerged by water.

Atleast 33 million people were affected by the flood, with 5.4 million forced to rely on contaminated water. Balochistan was one of the worst affected areas in the entire country.

Caretaker CM Mir Ali Mardan Khan Domki said that an unusual situation had arisen after the heavy rains in Gwadar and expressed greif over the damage due due to flooding.

said that rescue efforts are being hampered as many important roads are submerged by water.

However, he added that rescue officials have been provided their required machinery and operations are underway.

Domki added that rescue efforts were being carried out jointly by the district administration as well as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority.

The CM said that clearing roads to restore connectivity was a priority for the government and would be carried out without delay.
