Gen Bajwa wanted VONC to be withdrawn, PMLN leader says

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz leader Malik Ahmad Khan has refuted claims of General Qamar Bajwa’s support for the no-confidence vote against Imran Khan, saying that the former army chief actually wanted the motion to be withdrawn.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Malik Ahmad Khan said that Bajwa had met members of multiple political parties in March 2022 in B-Mess near the Punjab House, a few days before the VONC was held.

In the meeting, Khan added, the general had tried to pressure the parties to withdraw the no-confidence vote.

Khan also described Bajwa as ‘Imran’s representative’, adding that the parties in the meeting opposed Bajwa’s suggestion.

His statement comes a day after Maulana Fazal ur Rehman claimed in an interview that the vote that ousted Imran Khan from power was backed by General Bajwa and Lt General Faiz Hameed,

Fazal had added that the two generals had met the opposition parties at the time and told the parties how to proceed with the vote.

According to a news report published on Friday, sources close to the two generals have denied Maulana’s claims as well.
