‘What’s happening to Imran Khan is ridiculous,’ says Mehdi Hasan

British-American broadcaster Mehdi Hasan has spoken about the three verdicts against former prime minister Imran Khan in six days.

“What’s happening to Imran Khan right now is both ridiculous & outrageous,” he said in response to a trial court’s decision to sentence the PTI founder and his wife to seven years in jail over an illegal nikkah case.

On Saturday, the trial court slapped both with a fine of Rs500,000 each and declared their nikkah illegal and against Sharia.

In its detailed verdict, the court said that the record proves that Khan and Bushra, were in relation before the 2018 “fraudulent” nikah.

Hasan in his post on X stated that such cases were affecting Pakistan’s standing in the world.

“It makes Pakistan a laughing stock to the rest of the world. And the fact that Western countries are silent as such moves are made speaks volumes about our leaders’ empty rhetoric about protecting democracy,” it said.
