According to a statement, the British Embassy in Tokyo said that it would allow more young nationals from the two countries to work and live in each other’s country.

Youth mobility programmes were established under the Hiroshima Accord, a global strategic partnership between the UK and Japan, in May last year.

The number of Japanese nationals eligible for the scheme has increased to 6,000 as of January 31. Moreover, the number of British nationals for the Working Holiday Scheme in Japan would also rise to 6,000, starting from April 1 this year.

According to the British Embassy, intending Japanese citizens would no longer require to register their interest through a ballot. They can submit their applications at any time as long they meet the eligibility criteria.

Over the years, it added that thousands of young British and Japanese people have had the opportunity to travel, work, and explore each other’s countries and cultures through these visa programs.
