The curious case of tennis court, luxury bedroom in Imran Khan’s Bani Gala residence

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf supporters have raised questions over the accuracy of recent photos purportedly showing the interior of party founder Imran Khan’s mansion in Islamabad.

Daily Jang, while reporting on a story regarding the house arrest of former First Lady Bushra Bibi on February 2, shared a few aerial shots along with the supposed interior of Khan’s residence showing a luxury bedroom.

The visuals published by the newspaper showed a tennis court and a swimming pool built adjacent to Khan’s residence. The caption of the photo stated that “Bani Gala’s luxury mansion holds tennis court and swimming pool.”

Journalist Muqadas Farooq Awan claimed that the picture was actually of a mansion in Australia. She also shared a screenshot of the infrastructure that Jang claimed was located in Bani Gala.

Searching on Google for the coordinates of the screenshot Awan shared in a post on X, showed results from an Australian property marketplace.

According to the website, the “16 Chiltern Court, Coes Creek QLD 4560” was sold by private treaty on September 30, 2016.

Another picture showing a luxury bedroom which Jang claimed was from the former prime minister’s residence had Khan’s former wife Reham Khan’s framed photos.

“A view of an expensive and luxury bedroom inside Bani Gala House. Reham Khan’s picture can be seen,” the newspaper wrote in the caption of the photo.

While the photo’s authenticity has not been confirmed or denied by any, a video published on YouTube in 2018 included similar shots of Khan’s residence.

However, ambiguity arises over the photos as the video shows only a table lamp at 1:08 mark and the very next shot shows Reham Khan’s framed photo placed just beside the table lamp in the same spot.

The video, published by Barlass Fashion channel, claimed that the video showed the interior of the PTI founder’s residence. However, the video does not provide a source for its claims.
