Factcheck: Was a PTI song played at Maryam Nawaz’s rally?

A recent video showed Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz Chief Organiser Maryam Nawaz being interrupted at a rally with a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf song.

The clip shows Maryam pausing before she begins to make a speech on stage and asking about a noise filling the venue. A PTI song by Attaullah Esakhelvi is playing in the background.

An organiser then has to take over the mic and ask for someone named ‘Hammad’ to stop the noise.

The video was posted onto X and reached over 12,000 people from one post alone. Some even went as far ahead as to claim in jest that anger had flashed across Maryam’s face and that the DJ at the rally might have mixed his playlists or changed his loyalties.

However, the video is FAKE.

Maryam’s attire and the stage’s set-up and background allow the video’s origin to be traced very easily. The clip was taken from Maryam Nawaz’s rally in Lahore’s NA-119 from where she is contesting.

The event took place on January 25 and was livestreamed by PMLN on YouTube. The video is still available online.

The fake clip, which is 24 seconds long, is taken from the video just part the 15 minute mark.

In the video, Maryam asks, ‘Ye kya shor horaha hai?’ (what is this noise). Someone next to her replies that it is a heavy bike, a typically extravagant feature of PMLN gatherings where lions are also commonly paraded.

The person next to Maryam then takes over the mic and asks for the bike to be shut off. However, his choice of words (band karo/stop it) allow just enough space for the clip to be edited with a PTI song.
