The ambassadors of Pakistan and Iran have returned to embassies following an understanding between the two countries, foreign office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said on Friday.

“As per understanding between the two countries, Ambassador of Pakistan Muhammad Muddasir Tipu arrived in Tehran today while the Iranian Ambassador of Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam arrived in Islamabad,” she said in a post on X.

The relation between the two countries took a major blow for a brief period after Iran carried out strikes in Pakistan that resulted in the killings of several including children on January 17.

In retaliation, Pakistan expelled Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan and recalled it’s envoy from Tehran while the Pakistan Customs officials deployed at Chabahar Port were also called back home.

Later, Pakistan forces carried out ‘highly coordinated’ strikes against terrorist camps inside Iranian territory on January 18.

Soon after the strikes, Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statements condemning Pakistan’s missile strike into its territory, calling it ‘unbalanced and unacceptable’.

However, the two countries had engaged on a diplomatic level and emphasised to work together and boost bilateral cooperation.
