Fazl reportedly holds meeting with Taliban’s supreme leader in Kabul

Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met Afghan Taliban’s supreme leader Haibatullah Akhundzada in Afghanistan’s Kabul on Wednesday, reports said.

The two leaders discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and resolved to work together for stability and security in the region, they added.

It is pertinent to mention that the JUI-F chief reached Kabul on January 7 where he discussed security issues with key officeholders of the Taliban government.

Afghan outlet Ariana News reported that Rehman held a meeting with Mawlavi Abdul Kabir, the deputy prime minister of Afghanistan after he arrived in the country.

Before his departure, the JUI-F chief had said that he would also visit Akhundzada in Qandahar. The reclusive Akhunzada is known to rarely meet foreign dignitaries.

Reports emerged today that Rehman met the Taliban supreme leader who welcomed the JUI-F chief in the country.

However, Aaj News could not independently verify Rehman’s meeting with the Taliban supreme leader while officials from both parties have also not stated the reported meeting.
