Speaking informally to reporters in Adiala jail after the hearing of the Toshakhana case on Monday, Khan said that he had dictated points which were turned into an article using AI tools.

However, he said that he ‘owned’ the contents of the article. He added that one of his speeches will also be released on social media soon.

The article, written by invitation in the Economist, was titled ‘Imran Khan warns that Pakistan’s election could be a farce’ and included a summary by the former PM of how he believed he was ousted from power.

He had also expressed reservations that the upcoming elections were being manipulated for favourable outcomes by the establishment.

However, the caretaker government had expressed strong reservations about the article with Information Minister Murtaza Solangi claiming that the article was ‘ghost written’ and not penned by Khan himself.

“It is not an issue that someone cannot write an article or a book while languishing in jail. We have the objection that the article in question has not been written by the former PTI chairman,” Solangi had said.

However, sources in the PTI quoted by Dawn had said that the article was a ‘consolidation’ of things already said by Imran Khan at different points.

Solangi also reacted to the claims about the article being AI-generated in a post on X.

“…the current Chairman PTI doesn’t endorse its anti-establishment and anti-American contents but the PTI overseas, some semi-literate anchors and @TheEconomist are jubilant over AI generated shenanigans,” he wrote in the post.

Khan repeated the reservations in his conversation with reporters on Monday as well, saying his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was not being given a level playing field.
