Punjab govt decides against extending winter vacations for schools

The caretaker Punjab government has decided not to extend winter vacations for schools which means academic activities would resume from January 10 in all schools.

“Due to the ongoing winter wave, schools will resume on 10th Jan, 2024,” Naqvi said in a post on X, erstwhile Twitter, on Monday. “From 10th to 22nd Jan, schools will start at 9:30 am.”

The interim CM who also shared a video of him advised students to wear jackets and warm clothes.

Last week, Naqvi signalled a possibility of extending the winter vacation of educational institutions beyond January 9, 2024, on account of severe weather conditions in the province. But he has also made clear that no decision has been taken yet.

Such a decision would be based on the recommendation of the education department.

Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces have already extended winter vacations till January 9 given a rather harsh winter this year. Originally the vacations were to end on December 3.
