“The fine would be applicable on all kinds of vehicles without any discrimination,” the NHMP said in a statement on Sunday. It will be followed all highways that fall under the domain of NHMP.

The decision comes at a time when the highway police have been dealing with heavy fog in Punjab. Police daily put traffic updates on social media to avoid any untoward incidents as several accidents occurred on the highway in the past due to fog.

The amount of the fine starts from Rs1,000.

Details of fines are:

Violating maximum speed limit

• Motorcycle: Rs1,5000
• Car: Rs2,500
• Heavy traffic vehicle (HTV): Rs5,000
• Passenger coaches: Rs10,000

Luggage overloading

• Additional fine: Rs10,000

Driving on opposite line

• Additional fine: Rs2,500

Violating traffic signal

• Yellow signal: Rs1,000
• Red flashing: Rs2,000
• Red signal: Rs5,000

Loading luggage in dangerous way

• Additional fine: Rs10,000

Overcrowded passenger coaches

• Additional fine: Rs5,000

Driving vehicles without lights

• Additional fine: Rs5,000

Overtaking in prohibited area

• Motorcycle/car/light traffic vehicle: Rs1,500
• Passenger coaches/heavy traffic vehicle: Rs3,000

Not giving another car its way

• Additional fine: Rs1,000

Becoming interrupting in way of emergency vehicle

• Additional fine: Rs5,000

Moreover, police added that the entry of vehicles without M-tag would be banned. They advised to install a M-tag on their vehicle in order to avoid any trouble.

They advised drivers to visit nearest M-tag centre to acquire the needed tag. The CNIC, car, and documents are necessary for seeking the tag.
