Easypaisa assures customers Telenor sale won’t affect operations

Payments platform Easypaisa has assured its customers that they will not be affected by Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited’s acquisition of Telenor.

In a post on X on Monday, Easypaisa said that Telenor Microfinance Bank was not part of the recent deal that changed ownership of Telenor in Pakistan and no customers would be affected.

“In response to recent news about Telenor Pakistan’s sale, we want to assure our valued customers that our operations remain unaffected,” the post said.

“Your deposits are completely secure, and this development will not impact them in any way.”

Easypaisa’s post further explained that TMB is an ‘independent financial institution’ and falls under the governance of the State Bank of Pakistan.

“We are a joint venture between Telenor B.V. and Ant Group, who are committed shareholders, dedicated to the Bank’s ongoing transformation from a Microfinance Bank to a Digital Retail Bank, subject to regulatory approvals,” it said.

Easypaisa also asked customers to disregard any rumours about the company’s future and maintain trust in the company’s work. It added that the company’s operations would continue seamlessly.

“We remain committed to working towards our mission of a financially inclusive, digital Pakistan,” the statement said.

PTCL had announced on Thursday that it had signed an agreement to acquire a 100% stake in Telenor Pakistan worth Rs108 billion.
