“The decision of the Supreme Court’s larger bench on the trial of civilians in military courts is no less than “Judicial Coup” against the Constitution and a violation of fundamental human rights,” a statement by the party said.

In the statement, PTI said that there is no concept of military trials of civilians in any civilised democratic society in the world.

“Even in our constitution, there is no provision for trials in military courts of civilian population,” it added.

The statement went on to say that the decision to stop military trials of civilians was ‘very appropriate’ and had saved the country from a ‘major constitutional accident’.

PTI said that not only had a judge disagreed with the decision but lawyers and legal experts had also shown concern over the matter.

It said that the remarks made by some judges in the case were a cause of concern and the decision would lead to deterioration of the constitutional order..

“After practically depriving the country of its constitution, destrying the solid and stable constitutional structures/limitations will open the doors of complex crises instead of reforming the country,” the statement added.

It also reminded the SC that it was its duty to protect both the constitution and the fundamental rights.

The party also vowed to fight back against the ‘organised attack on human rights’ by puttin civilians through military trials in ‘fake cases’.
