ECP says election schedule being circulated is ‘fake’

The Election Commission of Pakistan has clarified that an election schedule being circulated on social media is ‘fake’.

In a statement issued on Sunday, ECP said that the election schedule has not been issued yet and the schedule being shared online is fake.

The statement added no attention should be paid to anything not coming directly from the Commission’s spokesperson.

The statement also issued a rebuttal to a news item published in the Daily Jang about consultations over petitions filed in the Commission.

The fake schedule had claimed that nomination papers would be filed between December 20 and 25. It added that after scrutiny and appeals, a final list of candidates would be published on January 15 and election symbols would be alloted on January 17.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"
        src="https://www.aajenglish.tv/news/card/30343428"
        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

The election schedule has to be issued atleast 54 days before polling day. With the election date already set for February 8, the clock is ticking for the Commission to announce the date by December 16.

On Friday, sources had claimed that the schedule was likely to be announced on December 14.
