Sindh High Court suspends notification banning Imran’s statements from TV

The Sindh High Court suspended a notification banning the broadcast of Imran Khan’s speeches on Friday.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf had challenged the Pakistan Electronic Media Authority’s notification of December 4, that banned the media from showing Khan’s statements.

PTI’s lawyer Ali Tahir argued that it was illegal to ban the statements of a former prime minister from being aired and PEMRA had issued the notification illegally.

The lawyer argued that the notification should be annulled.

However, the court announced its reserved decision to say that the notification should suspended.

The court also issued notices to PEMRA and the federal government, asking them to submit replies on December 21.

The notification had been issued after reporters managed to speak to Imran Khan in the Adiala Jail for the first time in months during a cipher case hearing. A few sentences from Khan’s conversation had been broadcast on TV.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"

        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

Imran Khan was quoted as saying by reporters that he was never offered talks and was ready to stay behind bars for a long period, but at the same time he could guarantee that the PTI would win the upcoming general election.

He also blamed Nawaz Sharif for the events of May 9 in his interaction with reporters, saying it was all part of a London plan.
