Imran challenges disqualification in LHC

With elections drawing closer, former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has filed a petition in the Lahore High Court to reverse his disqualification to allow him to contest the polls.

Khan filed the application on Thursday through his lawyer, Ali Zafar, and has made the Election Commission of Pakistan a party.

The former prime minister has said that he was disqualified by the ECP on August 8 for five years. He added that the ECP took its decision in haste with the aim of keeping him out of the upcoming elections.

The petition adds that elections are rapidly approaching as the Supreme Court has already fixed a date for them. Khan has also maintained that the grounds for his disqualification are baseless.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"
        src="https://www.aajenglish.tv/news/card/30301954"
        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

Khan has asked the LHC to suspend the notificaiton of his disqualification until the matter is decided by the LHC.

The former PM was disqualified from holding public office after an accountability court found him guilty of ‘corrupt’ practices in the Toshakhana case in August. He was arrested in the case minutes after the decision.
