Javeria Khanum, a resident of Karachi, on Tuesday crossed over to India through the Wagah border to tie the knot with her Indian fiancé Sameer Khan, India Today reported.

The couple had to wait for five years to unite due to Covid-19 restrictions and subsequent visa issues.

Upon arrival, Khanum was welcomed by Khan and members of his family to the beats of ‘dhol’.

Khanum has been granted a visa for a limited time of 45 days after her two visa applications were rejected.

Sameer expressed gratitude to the Indian government when the couple interacted with the media at the airport upon the arrival of Javeria in India.

“I would like to thank the Indian government for their cooperation. Borders do not matter when the intentions are pure,” said Sameer.
