Prime suspect in Kohistan girl murder case remanded in police custody for seven days

A court granted police on Tuesday a seven-day physical remand of the prime suspect in the Kohistan girl murder case, as more suspects were arrested in the case.

Police have claimed to have arrested three suspects who were allegedly involved in the discussion before giving orders to kill the 18-year-old girl in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mansehra district.

They are said to be the prime suspect’s brother Arsal, cousin, and a close relative.

Rehmat Shah, the boy in the photo, was in police custody and his statement was recorded in the court.

The girl was allegedly killed on the orders of a local jirga because she had appeared in a picture on social media. But according to DSP Mukhtiar Ahmed, the victim was killed on the orders of her family.

On Tuesday, the Federal Investigation Agency confirmed that the photos that allegedly led to the death of a teenage girl in Kohistan were doctored.

The FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing has identified the culprits involved in manipulating and circulating the image of the woman and the information has been handed over to police, sources said.

The men involved in the incident created a fake profile on Facebook under the name of Deedar Amanullah, they said and added that the man whose identity was stolen from the account had also filed a complaint with the FIA.

A first information report of the killing was registered under sections 109 (abetment in crime), 302 (punishment of qatl-i-amd or premeditated murder) and 311 (punishment after the waiver of qisas) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

DSP Mukhtiar Ahmed had told Aaj News that there would not be a settlement (raazi nama) on this case as the victim’s mother or sister was not a complainant.

“Now the state is the complainant so we will take it as a base and investigate [the case],” Ahmed said and shunned the possibility that the murderer could be pardoned as the state was the complainant.
