PTI leader Asad Qaiser re-arrested in KP’s Swabi

PTI leader Asad Qaiser was re-arrested on Thursday after the Abbottabad bench of the Peshawar High Court approved his bail in a graft case, police said.

Eyewitnesses told Aaj News that the former National Assembly speaker was arrested from outside the Swabi jail in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to police, he was taken to Charsadda in a case pertaining to damaging state properties on May 9 when violent protests broke out after PTI chief Imran Khan’s first arrest in graft case.

It merits here to mention that earlier in the day, an anti-corruption court approved Qaiser’s bail in a graft case and asked him to submit surety bonds worth Rs80,000.

Earlier this week, the court granted him bail in the case. Last week, a court in Swabi granted the anti-corruption establishment Qaiser’s two-day physical remand.

He has already filed a writ petition in the Peshawar High Court to seek details of all the cases registered against him.

Qaiser, who belongs to Marghuz village of Swabi district, was first arrested on November 3 by Islamabad police from his house in Islamabad. He was kept in custody for 11 days.

His arrest had “raised eyebrows” as many political commentators were wondering the timing of the development. He was arrested days after he led a delegation to meet political leaders.

The next day, a district and sessions court in Islamabad sent the PTI leader on judicial remand. The court had directed investigators to complete legal proceedings against him in a week.
