Court allows Nawaz to file statement in Toshakhana case by November 30

An Accountability Court in Islamabad allowed Nawaz Sharif to record his statement in the Toshakhana case and has ordered that the reply must be filed by November 30.

The court took up the case once again on Monday, where the former prime minister did not appear in person but was represented by his lawyers.

Nawaz’s laywer Qazi Misbah said that the reference had been filed in the accused’s absence so he never had a chance to receord his statement. He said that a supplementary reference would have to be filed and asked the court to order the National Accountability Bureau to record his statement.

NAB’s prosecutor said that he needed time to read the petitioner’s request.

However, the judge questioned what could possibly be the issue in the matter and told NAB to record the statement.

Qazi Misbah stated that once the questionnaire is provided, we will respond and provide a deadline.

Apart from Nawaz, Asif Ali Zardari, Yousaf Raza Gillani, Abdul Ghani Majeed, and Anwar Majeed were also present through their pleaders.

In the last hearing, Nawaz Sharif appeared in the court to surrender, and the court granted him bail against a surety of Rs 1 million. The court issued notice to NAB on the petition for confiscation of the property and sought arguments.

Meanwhile, the PMLN chief has called a meeting of his legal team in Murree to prepare for his hearing on November 21 in the Avenfield and Al-Aziziya case.
