Zardari expresses confidence in ECP’s ability to hold fair polls

Former President Asif Ali Zardari expressed confidence in the Election Commission of Pakistan to conduct fair and transparent elections in the country.

Zardari, who is co-chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, said that the country’s atmosphere is suitable for elections and the polls should take place on time.

He added that his party is ready for elections and will get a majority after the February 8 elections.

Zardari said that the PPP had the ability to take part in elections in any situation.

The former president’s remarks appeared to keep a softer tone than son and Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari who has been raising alarm about the possibility of another ‘selected’ regime.

Bilawal has also called for traditional politics to be ditched and for the masses to trust new faces instead of going back to the same old ones in the next polls.

“If someone thinks they can forcefully a prime minister, then they are mistaken,” he said, “we are ready to face anyone. We will not be part of any IJI [Islami Jamhoori Ittehad],” Bilawal told workers in Peshawar.
