Underaged driver sent on five-day remand in car collision case

An underaged driver who allegedly killed six people people in a car collission was sent on a five-day remand on Saturday.

The driver, named Afnan Shafqat, was produced in the anti-terrorism court in handcuffs with a black cloth over his head.

The accused’s lawyer told the court that a tragic accident had taken place but Shafqat’s right to fair trial should not be compromised.

The lawyer admitted that the incident had taken place due to the driver’s ‘negligence’ but said there had been no argument between him and the victims.

He added the accused was only 17 years old and had been kept in illegal detention for three days. The lawyer said that whatever sections were applicable in the case should be added but the accused should be tried in a juvenile court.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"

However, the judge asked the prosecution about why a remand was needed and handed over Shafqat to them for five days.

A case has been filed against Shafqat in the Defence police station. The court had told the prosecution earlier to make sure all legal requirements in the case are met.
