Ex-cricketers suggest keeping Babar Azam captain of Test team: sources

In a meeting with the Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Zaka Ashraf, the ex-cricketers have suggested to keep Babar Azam captain only in the Test cricket to reduce burden on the Pakistani skipper, sources said.

Former captain of Pakistan Younis Khan, Mohammad Hafeez, Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir met Ashraf in Lahore to discuss the current condition of Pakistan cricket, they added.

The former cricketers forwarded their suggestions including separate teams for all three formats of cricket and to continue with Babar Azam as only the captain of the test team.

Currently, Azam is leading Pakistan in all three formats; Tests, ODIs and T20s.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"
        src="https://www.aajenglish.tv/news/card/30340286"
        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

While the former cricket stars expressed disappointment over the team’s dismal performance in the World Cup, they were against unnecessary changes in the team.

It is pertinent to mention that the PCB chief has called Azam for a meeting on Wednesday after Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the World Cup.

The invite from Ashraf came a day after Azam landed in Pakistan on his way back from an underwhelming World Cup campaign, where the national team failed to make a place in the semi-finals.
