Hashtag #fixer haunts Muhammad Amir after criticising Babar Azam

Cricketer Muhammad Amir is the new target of social media users, especially fans of skipper Babar Azam as he is being trolled and bashed for his 2010 match-fixing past after criticizing skipper Babar Azam.

Earlier a day in his appearance on a show on Geo News “Haarna Mana Hay” hosting Tabish Hashmi, Amir termed Babar responsible for losing World Cup 2023.

“Captaincy does matter,” said Amir, the captain is a part of the system, he is a part of selection and he decides which player will play in the match.

He said that the team couldn’t be changed without changing of captain’s mindset. “Did the system say to put Fakhar Zaman and Abrar Ahmed outside?”

Amir’s comments sparked social media debate. Users are saying that at the same stage of their career as Naseem and Shaheen, “you [Amir] were in the spotlight in England.”

In September 2010 the ICC suspended three Pakistan players - Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Asif, and Salman Butt - on allegations of what was later defined as spot-fixing. They were alleged to have carried out specific on-field actions, including bowling no-balls at pre-determined times, during the Lord’s Test against England on the instance of a bookie.

The three were later handed long bans by the ICC before the matter moved to the British Crown courts, where all three were convicted and sentenced to spells of detention.
