Two more Congo patients moved to Karachi hospital: CM Domki

Caretaker Chief Minister of Balochistan Mir Ali Mardan Domki has said that the provincial government is treating the Congo patients at its own expense while two more Congo-infected medical professionals were moved to Karachi.

“All the infected patients are being treated in a private hospital in Karachi on government expenses. Today, two members of the health department were moved to Karachi through an air ambulance,” he said on Wednesday.

In a letter to Agha Khan Hospital Karachi, the under secretary of Balochistan’s health department said that Abdul Ghani and Saddiq Khan were being shifted to the healthcare facility.

“It is requested that the medical treatment may please be provided to the patients on Government Expenses and thereafter, the bill of the treatment may be communicated to this department for payment,” the letter read.

Meanwhile, Domki said that a total of 13 people, including nine doctors and two members of medical staff are currently under treatment in Karachi.

“The health department, doctors, and medical professionals are active in controlling the Congo outbreak. The government is fumigating cattle markets across the province,” he said.

The divisional commissioners and Livestock department’s officials have been directed to ensure the precautionary measures are in place, Domki added.

He said that the provincial government has imposed a health emergency in the province. “People are requested to take the precautionary measures set by the government.”

The interim CM vowed to eradicate the Congo virus from the province.

A day earlier, Balochistan’s Caretaker Minister for Health Dr Amir Muhammad Khan Jogezai said that Congo virus detection was routine in the province. However, he called it alarming that the medical professionals contracted it from a patient.

He said that the ward has been sealed, from where the virus spread, and will remain sealed for a week.

He said that Dr Shakr Ullah Khan’s life could have been saved if the Uthal Coast Guard had not stopped the ambulance for around three hours.

Due to the lack of an air ambulance, the congo infected doctor was moved to Karachi in an ambulance.
