The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan decided on Tuesday that they would form an electoral alliance to contest the next general elections.

The decision came after a delegation of MQM-P met PML-N supermo Nawaz Sharif and other party leaders. The delegation consisted of Mustafa Kamal and Farooq Sattar and was headed by convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

Both parties also decided to form a 6-member committee. The committee will prepare a comprehensive charter for the problems of Sindh, especially focusing on urban areas.

The committee will present the final proposals for collaboration between the two parties within 10 days.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, PMLN leader Khawaja Saad Rafique said that the two parties had signed a charter in the previous government as well. He added that the two parties have reached an agreement to contest the next elections together.

MQM leader Mustafa Kamal said that Nawaz is now the most senior politician in South Asia and has experience in running a government that no one else does.

Kamal added that the country’s problems were so deep-rooted that the discussion was no longer centered around who would get what ministry.

He also said that MQM had won 17 out of 20 seats in Karachi in the 2013 election and the party hoped to return to the same position in 2024.

Reports had said earlier that the two parties would discuss upcoming general elections and new political alignment.

There will be a discussion on the possibility of an election alliance of PMLN including MQM-P, Grand Democratic Alliance, and Jamiat-e-Ulema Fazal in Sindh.

The MQM was sent an invitation to meet by Shehbaz Sharif on behalf of Nawaz.

Nawaz Sharif has decided to create a broad consensus among all political parties.

This decision has been taken to create an atmosphere where elections can be held in a peaceful and transparent manner.
