Court extends bails for Asad, Aleema and Uzma in May 9 case

An anti-terrorism court in Lahore extended the bails of Asad Umar as well as Imran Khan’s sisters, Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan, till October 31 on Monday.

All three are wanted by the police in connection with protests on My 9 which turned violent and led to vandalism in multiple parts of Lahore.

Umar’s lawyer told the court that the former planning minister had become part of the investigation but had no idea what action had been taken since then.

In response, the government’s lawyer told the court that the investigation officer had suffered a heart attack so the relevant records cannot be presented in court.

Asad Umar’s lawyer then demanded that the court should order the government side to present the records at the next hearing.

Protests had broken out across Pakistan after Imran Khan was arrested in the Toshakhana case on May 9. The protests had turned violent in many places, especially in Lahore where the Corps Commander house had been ransacked and burned.

The government had asked the court to arrest Imran Khan’s sisters on the previous hearing, saying that they had been found guilty in the May 9 riots.
