The video was aired on Aljazeera on Wednesday and is shot from a distance so the woman and children are not identifiable. It also shows a man in blakc clothes, apparently a Hamas fighter, walking away as the woman hugs her child.

It is not clear where the woman and children are in the video, but the presence of a fence indicates it is somewhere near the Israel-Gaza border.

Hamas’ Qassem Brigade said that the woman is an Israeli citizen and was detained along with her children during clashes with Israel. The Israeli government has yet to make a statement on the video.

Earlier reports had said that atleast 150 Israelis had been taken captive after Hamas attacked multiple areas through land and air. Over 1,200 Israelis were killed in the attack.

Some in the Israeli media have claimed that the release of the video is a damage control measure by Hamas after criticism over its actions mounted.

In response, the Israeli army bombarded Gaza, reducing many parts of the city to rubble and killing over 1,000 Palestinians and displacing another 250,000.
