Minar-e-Pakistan gathering a decisive factor for PML-N, says journalist Suharwardy

Journalist Muzamal Suharwardy has said that PML-N’s gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan on October 21 will be a decisive factor for the party’s future in the upcoming elections.

“We have seen in the past when Imran Khan’s one gathering in 2010 changed his party’s momentum. If they [PML-N] are successful in holding a big show at Minar-e-Pakistan, it will give them an edge in the elections,” he told Asma Shirazi on Faisla Aap Ka.

Suharwardy said that a successful political gathering can change the momentum of a party. He was responding to a question regarding a recent survey on political parties in which PML-N did not fare well.

He believed that Nawaz Sharif will return to the country without considering the outcome of the Supreme Court proceedings on Article 184(3) of the Constitution.

“He [Sharif] did not return to the country because the Supreme Court was occupied by a like-minded bench,” he added.

Read: Nawaz Sharif was locked up to pave way for fascism in Pakistan, says Shehbaz Sharif

Analyst Owais Tohid said that the PML-N lost several political grounds in Punjab since the vote of no-confidence in April 2022.

“Nawaz Sharif may be waiting for a decision of the Supreme Court on Article 184(3) before returning to the country. We have seen that he did not return during his brother’s government despite repeated statements that he is coming back to the country,” he added.

For Tohid, the country may see a fragile coalition government with PML-N as a part of it, in case the PTI fails to make a comeback in the upcoming elections.

For journalist Zarrar Khuhro, the most important question in the current political situation is how the elections will be conducted, instead of parties holding political gatherings.

Talking about parties’ narratives, he said that political parties embrace anti-establishment narratives when it is against them.
