‘Is she copying Maryam?’ Video showing UAE minister triggers social media debate

UAE state minister Reem Ibrahim Hashmey’s first look at the UN General Assembly last week confused Pakistani viewers. Some of them could be forgiven for mistaking her for Pakistan’s Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

Reem was addressing the United National General Assembly and a clip from her video went viral.

Now, PML-N supporters are claiming she “copied” Maryam Nawaz Sharif or at least followed her fashion style. PTI supporters find the claim preposterous.

The video went viral on different social media platforms and generated debates.

Reem dressed up like the PMLN Chief Organizer Maryam Nawaz and her hairstyle and makeup also resembled that of Maryam’s.

In the video, Reem was seen in a blue monotone dress, standing at the podium of the General Assembly and representing her country.

PTI supporters have been claiming that Maryam stole fashion ideas from Reem, who, however, had been unknown to Pakistanis before the video went viral.

PMLN supporters meanwhile said that Maryam Nawaz was a ‘brand’’ and people around the world were trying to “catch her style.”
