Minister backtracks on Nawaz statement after PMLN backlash

Caretaker Interior Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said on Tuesday that his statement about Nawaz Sharif’s arrival was taken ‘out of context’ after Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz issued strong reactions.

Bugti had told a TV interview on Monday that a large force is not needed to make an arrest at the airport. He had also called the airport a ‘sensitive’ place and said that large crowds will not be allowed there.

However, he clarified on Tuesday that the remarks were taken out of context and Nawaz would be treated as per the law. He also said that it was positive development that Nawaz was returning to politics and that a large number of his party workers wanted to welcome him.

Follwoing Bugti’s Monday statement, Rana Sanaullah responded that the decision on whetther Nawaz would be arrested or be welcomed by the party would be made by the public and not the government.

Sanaullah added that Bugti’s statement was going ‘beyond limits’ and that the interior minister should take a lesson from what had become of Sheikh Rasheed.
