Answering a question about the allegations made by Trudeau in a press briefing on Monday, State Department spokespersn Matthew Miller said that the US is deeply concerned by the allegations and is in touch with the Canadian government over the issue.

“What I will say is we are deeply concerned by the allegations referenced by Prime Minister Trudeau. We remain in close contact with our Canadian partners, as the Secretary said on Friday,” Miller said.

However, Miller did not provide an answer to whether the US was the ally that had provided intelligence about involvement of Indian officials in the killing.

“We believe it’s critical that Canada’s investigation proceed and that the perpetrators be brought to justice,” Miller said.

“And we have publicly – and privately – urged the Indian Government to cooperate in the Canadian investigation.”

PM Trudeau had told an emergency session of the House of Commons that his government was looking into ‘credible’ information that the Indian government could be involved in the killing of Sik separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was murdered in Canada in June.
