Qazi Faez Isa slams lawyer for using delay tactics

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa said that the trend of seeking hearing dates as a delay tactic would no longer work in the Supreme Court.

The chief justice made the remarks while presiding over a property dispute case on Monday, where a lawyer asked to be granted a later date for the hearing.

Justice Isa said that the concept of going to the court to get hearings fixed for another date should end. He also added that all the necessary documents in a case should be submitted when the case reaches the court.

He also remarked that the appropriate way for hearings to take place is to issue notices on one hearings and hear arguments on the next. The judge added that a large number of cases were pending before the court.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"

        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

Justice Isa also told the lawyer to stick to either English or Urdu for arguing.

In another case, the judge chided a lawyer for not following the court’s instructions even though he had been instructed to submit a response in March last year.

When the judge hinted at a fine, the lawyer said he admitted his mistake. Justice Isa then told him to donate Rs10,000 to a charity of his choice and submit the receipts in court.
