Amid escalating tensions between India and Canada over the killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Sing Nijjar, new media reports have revealed that evidence contains communications between Indian officials including diplomats and that India has not denied the allegations behind closed doors.

A report by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, the state broadcaster, said that the government has both ‘human and signals’ intelligence regarding the involvement of the Indian government in the killing and not all of the intelligence was gathered by the country itself.

Canadian government sources told CBC that the evidence contains communications between Indian officials, including diplomats who are still present in Canada.

The report added that the investigation has been going on for months and includes intelligence provided by an ally from the Five Eyes network which includes US, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

The report also says that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s speech was not the first time the Indian government found out that Canda was pursuing the investigation.

Trudeau recently said that revealing the allegations in the House of Commons was not a ‘lightly made’ decision and was taken with the utmost seriousness.

Canada’s National Security and Intelligence Adviser Jody Thomas visited India for four days in August and five days in September regarding the matter. It has also been revealed that Indian officials ahve not denied their involvement in discussions behind closed doors.

It has already been reported that the US and other Five Eyes members raised the matter with Indian PM Narendra Modi at the G20 summit as well.
