Tense standoff between Chinese delegation and Indian hosts at G20 summit

The Chinese delegation attending the G20 conference in India got into a spot of bother with their hosts, new reports in the Indian media have revealed.

The reports said that the management at the Taj Hotel grew suspicious when they saw the size of the bags that the members of the Chinese delegation were carrying.

However, the hotel was told to allow the unusual luggage into the hotel as it was classified as diplomatic baggage.

Then a 12-hour standoff began after a hotel employee said that he had seen ‘suspicious equipment’ inside the bags.

Hotel authorities tried to get the Chinese delegation to have the bags scanned, but the attempts were denied. However, the Indian side refused to let up either.

In the end, the parties agreed that the bags should be sent back to the Chinese Embassy. Their contents were never revealed.

Reports in the Indian media also claimed that the Chinese delegation asked the hotel to provide a private internet network which was denied as well.
