The Customs officials in India seized snakes, king cobras and other animals stuffed in an air traveller’s luggage.

A passenger boarded Air Asia’s flight (flight number FD137) which arrived at Bengaluru airport from Bangkok at 10:30 pm on Wednesday packed these animals in the bag.

Indian media reported that 55 ball pythons, 17 king cobras and six capuchin monkeys were found in the bag. While the pythons and cobras were alive, monkeys were found dead.

Bengaluru customs authority released a statement which said that 72 animals out of 78 were active while six monkeys were dead.

It added that the animals were seized under section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962, India.

The live animals have been deported to their origin countries while the others were disposed of with the proper sanitary measures.

The authorities have begun a probe into the matter.
