Sindh yet to follow ECP instructions on bureaucracy postings

Sindh’s caretaker government is yet to begin implementing instructions from the Election Commission of Pakistan regarding changes in the bureacuracy.

The commission had written a letter to caretaker Chief Minister Justice (r) Maqbool Baqar on Saturday, saying that the provincial government had failed to abide by orders already issued.

However, the government has still not started action saying that the election schedule has not been announced yet. Government sources added that the transfers and postings will begin ‘soon’.

A large shuffling of officers is expected in the province, especially among the police. The ECP is supposed to be notified of any major transfers or postings.

The commission had written to the government on August 15 that senior officers “reshuffled to post impartial and seasoned officers for the conduct of general elections”.

In its next letter, the commission had said that not implementing the instructions reflected badly on the government’s ‘preparedness’ for the elections.
