July bills could be paid in installments, as govt discusses options

A high-level meeting under Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar once again delayed a decision to provide relief in electricity bills as protests continue across the country.

The meeting on Monday included provincial chief ministers where the energy minister gave a briefing on the available options for the government to ease the pressure on the public. Reports said that a final decision is likely to be taken on Tuesday.

However, sources said that decrease in the bills by the government was not likely to be announced.

Instead the government could look towards an option to pay July’s electricity bills in multiple installments.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"

The PM had already indicated on Monday that the government would not take hasty decisions that could imperil the economy.

However, he had also said that the government would do its best to provide relief to the public and also issued orders to crackdown on electricity theft.
