Human rights activist Imaan Mazari, who was remanded into three-day police custody on Monday, has claimed that she was not allowed to read in jail.

“When I fainted yesterday [Sunday] in my cell, a CTD inspector came and took away my poems books and said, ‘You are not allowed to read’,” she told reporters outside an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad.

She was answering queries while women police officers took her away from the court where she was brought by the police to seek her remand.

Imaan and South Waziristan MNA Ali Wazir were arrested on Sunday. Both the accused were wanted by the Islamabad Police for investigation, said the federal capital police. But they did not specify the case.

When asked about the washroom, she described it as “very bad”. Imaan said that she had a medical condition in which a patient has a problem with their kidneys and a doctor from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences had also appeared to inquire after her.

She was heard saying “I am coming. Relax” when the police officials tried to take her to the vehicle. She claimed that the police shut the flappers when her mother asked to open them.
