Cecilia Ann, who is studying psychology, explained in a TikTok video that a Rorschach test—a test designed by psychiatrist Hermann Rorschach—is a psychological experiment that can reveal information about the personality of someone based on what they can see in the inkblot.

Swiss psychoanalyst Hermann Rorschach formalized this idea through the inkblot test he created. He noticed that people with schizophrenia tended to perceive the images differently than other individuals. He therefore used inkblots to create a diagnostic test for schizophrenia, which he wrote in his book Psychodiagnostik, stated Psychology Today.

“The test involves presenting a subject with images of inkblots; the person then describes what they see in these blots. The test can purportedly assess personality, emotional functioning, or certain mental disorders, but research has significantly challenged its validity,” according to Psychology Today.

She said this optical can be revealed whether you were stuck in the past and unable to be happy. On a video-sharing platform, she explained how the test could help to identify if you had any mental disorders.

If you see something extremely complicated in inkblot it depicts that you may be suffering from emotional trauma.

Cecilia repeated the process and showed images of an inkblot and asked them what they saw before and she explained. She was reading a book titled ‘The Body Keeps Score’ by Bessel van der Kolk, which said ‘wartime veterans, people with PTSD and people with trauma, and how the… test can tell you a lot about those people.’

Cecilia further explained if you saw something complicated in the images, then you were most likely to be ‘struck in the past’.

The interpretation was originally designed to diagnose schizophrenia but today may aim to elicit insights about the subject’s personality, emotions, cognition, motivations, relationships, or mental health.
