Anju says will visit India with her husband Nasrullah

Anju, an Indian woman who crossed borders to marry a Pakistani citizen, has said that she will return to her home country along with her husband.

“I am not a traitor and not an enemy of anyone. The media circulated rumours that I did care about my family and did not love my country, which is not true,” she stated in a video statement on Sunday.

She left her husband and two children in Rajasthan’s Alwar district to unite with her Pakistani lover Nasrullah in the Upper Dir district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The two had met online.

“People think that I am praising Pakistan only because I am here. I am telling it how it is. India is also beautiful,” she remarked.

Anju requested people to think positively of her and not portray her as an enemy of anyone.

An Indian news website claimed that she is longing to return to India. The website, which is not particularly well known, has attributed some statements to Anju that were apparently told to the BBC in an interview. However, the supposed BBC interview could not be found.

Anju’s story came to light on July 23, when the media reported that a married Indian woman travelled to join Upper Dir resident Nasrullah in the KP.

Anju, 35, from New Delhi and Nasrullah, 29, of Upper Dir, became friends on Facebook around four years ago. The friendship turned into love. She came all the way from the Indian capital to KP’s mountainous region apparently for him.

The two married a couple of days later and Anju converted to Islam and become Fatima after the conversion.
