Habib Mehsud was the brother of Salahuddin Mehsud, who served as IG KP from 2017 to 2019.

Tank DPO Waqar Ahmad said that Mehsud was passing through Gira Pathar when unknown men on a motorcycle fired on him and his guard. The guard was injured, while men abducted Meshud and took him away.

The DPO said that the police pursued the abductors as soon as it received word and confronted them. Police then engaged in a standoff with the men leading to damage being sustained by the police vehicle.

Ahmad said the men then took away Mehsud to Manzai, about 14 km from Tank, and shot him dead. His guard also succumbed to his wounds.

A heavy contingent of police is conducting a search operation in the area.
