The Supreme Court has bound the government to inform it before any civilians aare tried in military court.

In a written order issued for proceedings of August 3, the court said that the attorney general had already told the court on behalf of the government that no civilians will be tried without notifying the bench.

“Today the learned Attorney General has repeated that assurance on instructions specifically obtained from the highest military authorities under the Army Act,” he said.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"
        src="https://www.aajenglish.tv/news/card/30329364"
        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

The written order added that the court was confident that the government would adhere to its commitment.

“The learned Attorney General for this purpose shall first inform the Court by a statement made at the Bar on a date of hearing fixed in these petitions,” the order said.

“The Court, after hearing the parties, may thereupon make any order as is deemed appropriate.”

The date of the next hearing in the case has not been fixed yet. The order also noted that the matter of giving right of appeal to people under trial in military courts is being given ‘serious consideration’.
