Climate Minister Sherry Rehman against use of AI in newsrooms

Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman has raised objections over the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the newsrooms.

Commenting on a video posted on Twitter showing India’s first AI-generated news anchor delivering news, Sherry wrote: “Why would we want these hollow-voiced robots to deliver news, which needs emotional nuance, editorial judgement by anchors.”

“There are enough human faces and voices to do these jobs. These are not menial or repetitive tasks that humans don’t want,” she added.

The minister went on to add that she would prefer an “awkward news reader” over the expressionless avatar to give her news.
