Aaj News has mapped these locations on Google Maps to help people reach them as they dispose offal.

“Ninety-three locations will be designated for the collection of offal, and to execute these operations, 6,802 vehicles and a labour force of 24,366 will be used,” SSWMB media deputy director Almas Saleem told Aaj News on Tuesday.

The offal will be collected from the streets and taken to the collection points. Then, the offal will be transported to the two landfill sites of Karachi: Govind Pass and Jam Chakro, where 18 trenches have been dug to bury the offal, she added.

KMC’s role in solid waste management

When asked about the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s (KMC) role in the collection of offal on Eid, KMC Media Director Ali Hasan Sajid said: “There is no role of KMC in the collection of offal during Eid, but the mayor of Karachi will be supervising the entire operation.”

How the offal collection mechanism is managed in Karachi

Former district manager of SSWMB Muhammad Nabeel Ashraf told Aaj News that “we divide the districts into zones, and each zone has one zonal manager with two coordinators and two sub-managers: one to manage the operation regarding waste collection and the other to manage the vehicles at the zonal level.

Furthermore, each zone is composed of around 10 Union Committees (UCs), and each UC has two supervisors who ensure that the offal is taken to the designated collection points.
