A Pakistan-born Canadian citizen Aminuddin Alvi, 65, was shot dead by armed robbers over resistance near the Paposh Nagar area of Karachi on Monday. He had returned to Pakistan two days ago.

The Paposh Nagar police filed the first information report with the deceased’s sister as the plaintiff. The complaint was filed under sections 302 (Punishment of qatl-i-amd) and 393 (Attempt to commit robbery) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

In her statement, the deceased’s sister said that Alvi had returned to Pakistan two days ago, and was taking children of the area for Eidul Azha shopping when two armed robbers on a motorcycle tried to rob him near the Paposh Nagar Railway gate.

<picture></picture>

“Upon resisting, the suspects shot him dead,” she said, adding that she rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital upon getting information.

The children, who witnessed the event, told Aaj News that the deceased had taken them shopping. They added they went to a money exchange, where Alvi exchanged dollars and then they bought shoes. Robbers came on a bike and one of them reached for Alvi’s pocket when they were standing near the car, they said, adding that the victim resisted it and pushed the robbers.

They went on to add that when the victim resisted, the robbers shot and fled from the scene. The children said a rickshaw took Alvi to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after several minutes. The police came much later after the robbery, they added.

Alvi was a retired employee of Saudi Airlines. He had two sons and two daughters. His family is expected to arrive in Karachi today (Tuesday), after which he would be laid to rest.
