Lahore’s bakery chain rebuffs allegations of ‘lizard in cake’

A bakery chain based in Lahore has claimed that they have been subjected to baseless allegations after reports of a “dead lizard” found inside a store-bought cake from their Faislabad shop.

“We find ourselves in an unfortunate situation where our brand, Layers, has been subject to baseless allegations that aim to tarnish our hard-earned reputation,” said Lahore’s bakery chain in a Facebook post on Sunday.

The clarification comes after a video went viral on social media where a group of people, who could not be seen in the video, claimed that they found a lizard in a cake they bought. They were seen showing the cake purportedly to the staff, wearing uniforms, at the bakery chain.

Many people on social media demanded of the authorities to take action over the purported video.

“We take immense pride in the quality and hygiene of our products. Our factory adheres to the highest standards of cleanliness. It is technically impossible for foreign objects, such as the alleged lizard, to be found in our baked goods,” the company said.

The bakery added that they reserve the right to take legal action against those involved in “defamation of their brand” according to the Cybercrime Laws of Pakistan.

“Your trust means the world to us, and we want to reassure you that we are fully committed to delivering the best products possible. Thank you for your unwavering support. If you have any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly,” it added.
