People asked to stay indoors as Karachi real-feel temperature hits 45°C

Amid cyclone Biparjoy, the mercury in Karachi has hit 40°C and it is likely to remain hot and humid with maximum temperatures rising from 39°C to 41°C.

“The mercury reached 34°C in Karachi in the morning,” The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Monday.

Meanwhile, Zoom Earth’s real-feel map shows 45°C temperature in Karachi.

The Met Office said that the port city’s weather is being influenced by the unpredictable cyclone Biparjoy — which is likely to hit the coastlines of Sindh on June 15.

    <iframe
        class="nk-iframe" onload="setInterval(()=>{try{this.style.height=this.contentWindow.document.body.scrollHeight+'px';}catch{}}, 100)"
        width="100%" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="height:400px;position:relative"
        src="https://www.aajenglish.tv/news/card/30324021"
        sandbox="allow-same-origin allow-scripts allow-popups allow-modals allow-forms">

“The percentage of humidity in the air is 41%,” the department said, adding that the speed of the wind blowing from the southeast is 18kmph (kilometres per hour).

Moreover, health experts have warned people to stay indoors between 12 PM to 4:00 PM, when the temperature in the city is expected to hit the maximum.

They said to keep a wet towel on the head when going out in the sun. Use more water and cold drinks. According to them, the excessive use of water can avoid the harmful effects of heat.

Due to the hot weather, citizens could have heat stroke and children may have diarrhea, they said. “If you are unwell or have a high fever, contact the nearest hospital immediately.”
